Reporting a concern
Don’t wait until you’re certain, report a concern now.
Do you think a child or adult you know might be suffering from any of the following?
- Physical abuse – being hit, kicked or punched. View the Childline video on bullying, including physical abuse.
- Physical neglect – not being properly fed or clothed or suffering from poor hygiene. View the Childline video on neglect.
- Sexual abuse – exposed to inappropriate sexual behaviour, language or assault. View the Childline video on Sexual abuse.
- Emotional abuse – constantly criticised, ignored, humiliated or being exposed to domestic violence. View the Childline video on Emotional abuse.
What should you do to help?
- Act promptly
- Make a note of your concerns and act promptly by contacting the social care team – contacts below.
- If the individual is in immediate danger contact the Police on 999.
- Give as much information as you can about the child, adult or family
Please don’t:
- Ignore your concerns
- Assume someone else will call
- Try to resolve the situation yourself
Report a concern about a child in Buckinghamshire
If you think a child or young person under the age of 18 years is being abused or neglected, please inform the Buckinghamshire County Council’s First Response Team.

If you have concerns about the safety of a vulnerable adult please inform Buckinghamshire Council Safeguarding Adults team
