Chris has recently been appointed as the Older Adults Physical Activity Manager working for Leap, through Active-In.
His role will be to lead the Older Adults part of the Active Bucks project, a commission from Buckinghamshire County Council Public Health Department. We caught up with him to find out what brought him to Buckinghamshire and his priorities for the coming year.
What are your top 3 priorities over the coming year?
- To encourage more older adults across Buckinghamshire to be more active
- To establish new relationships with providers that sit traditionally outside of the current sporting agenda
- To develop an innovative marketing approach that encourage ‘in-active’ older adults to become involved in sport and physical activity
Where did you work previously and what did you do?
Organisation: Hertsmere Leisure
Role: Sport Development Manager
What attracted you to your current role?
During my previous role with Hertsmere Leisure, I had worked with Leap on a number of sport development programmes and had heard of the success that Active-In had achieved in implementing community programmes.
When the opportunity arose to apply for the position, it was something that I thought would enable me to develop as a sport development professional and the opportunity to work for a couple of well-respected organisations was a big pull.
What type of partners are you looking to work with in the coming year?
I am looking to engage with a wide range of partners across Buckinghamshire. I think the role will naturally lead you to work with partners that are invested in the current sporting agenda but there is also a great opportunity to build relationships with organisations that perhaps don’t have sport and physical activity at the forefront of their minds.
Tell us something about your self that people might not know?
Outside of work, I am massively passionate about Hockey. I’m 3rd team captain for St Neots Hockey Club in Cambridgeshire and also sit on the club’s committee as Club Development Officer. As such, I work actively with England Hockey to help find new angles to develop our club
How do you take your tea?
With a small dash of milk and no sugar
