The Community Games programme was created to give people up and down the country the chance to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by encouraging communities to come together and take part in sports and arts activities.
Community Games offer something for everyone. You don’t need to be sporty to take part – they are just as much about celebrating cultural achievement as sporting endeavour.
Take part in a Community Games
From village fetes and school sports days through to large sports festivals, Community Games come in all shapes and sizes but they all have a few things in common:
- They are led by the community
- Involve sporting and or cultural activities.
- Have some sort of opening or closing ceremony.
Visit the Community Games website to find an event near you.
Organise your own Community Games – or link your event to the national programme.
If you have an existing event or you are planning a new event that you think sounds like a Community Games then you can register interest in linking to the national programme, which provides; toolkits, e-learning, workshops, marketing resources and support for organisers, giving you the information and skills that you need to organise or improve your own Community Games.
So bring your community together to celebrate, you can find out more by expressing your interest and a local member of the Community Games team will be in touch. Or, if you already have an event planned, you can Register Your Games.
